Memorial Day (noun)
a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered, traditionally observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May.
When we think of Memorial Day we normally think about cookouts and grilling or hanging out with friends and family, and we forget the meaning behind what it truly is.
Sometimes we do the same thing with God and the things he has for us and the things he did for us. He died fighting for us and for our sins just like the soldiers we remember today that gave up their lives fighting for us to have the freedoms we have.
These soldiers, gave up their lives because of a love they had for their country and for their friends and family that they fought to protect. The bible talks about this is John when it talks about the greatest form of love.
John 15:13 (KJV)
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Just like the soldiers that we remember today, Jesus also laid down his life for the people he loved. He died for the sins of the whole world so that we could live a free life.
